Over the course of the last year, the tablet market has been flooded with numerous Android-based gizmos; however, none can seem to go the rounds with Apple. Ironically, Amazon who is hardly a hardware company, has been the only real contender, breaking up a small part of Apple's reign. Android-based tablets haven't seem to found a real edge against Apple, which is why many have high hopes for a Windows 8 tablet.
It is thought that Microsoft will bring more reliability and a smoother user experience than some of the current Android based tablets. Microsoft could also allow access to a full version of Microsoft Office and Window's file system to boot. These features alone would make a more productive tablet than the largely passive experiences offered by today's tablets. One last element of discipline will be needed from Microsoft to ensure stability across different platforms, which Microsoft has proved itself cable of for many years. All this being said, Microsoft has a good shot at persuading the tablet crowd in a new direction, as long as their prices are competitive enough!
